Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema on Monday sneaked into Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Science in Lusaka to spy on his girlfriend who he suspects has been ‘two-timing’ him with another man. However Hichilema was aware that his visit was going to attract attention, so he pretended to have gone to the institution to check on the poor state of the infrastructure there.
An impeccable source told Tumfweko that Hichilema has for a long time suspected that his girlfriend, a student at the college, was taking advantage of his public figure status, which made it difficult for him to be seen with her in public, to double-cross him.
Upon arrival at Evelyn Hone College, Hichilema headed straight to the female hostels, feigning concern at the poor state of facilities that the female students were using, while casting one sharp eye around to check if his girlfriend had a male visitor. Hichilema only toured female hostels and even went into the female toilets.
“He [Hichilema] knows his girlfriend’s hostel by name. He did his homework. I don’t even think she was aware he was coming, but obviously he suspects she’s with another man during the day especially weekends and holidays when she knows his chances of showing up are zero,” said the source.
However, it is not clear whether Hichilema managed to establish any evidence that the girl was cheating on him.
Meanwhile, coincidentally, Hichilema was told by some female students about the inhabitable sanitary conditions that resulted in an outbreak of a vaginal infection.
“Whether or not his girlfriend has the same infection is not clear,” said a source with a cheeky smile.
His visit attracted a handful of students, who had mixed reactions about it. As the UPND leader addressed the students, some of them flashed the PF symbol and shouted “Pa bwato!”, while others flashed the UPND symbol, shouting UPND slogans.
Later the UPND leader met a smaller group of students who pledged to support him and his party. He is said to have urged them to influence other students to stage a big demonstration against the PF government, promising that once elected, he would improve the state of the college.
“It turned out to be a double mission accomplished,” said the source,”… because he spied on his girlfriend, and managed to incite a few students, though I doubt if majority of the students will pay much attention to him.”
